After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.

After this audience with the king, the wise men resumed their journey. Suddenly, the same star they had seen in the eastern skies reappeared, leading them forward like a divine compass until it stood still over the place where the young child lay.
