and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

There they settled in a town called Nazareth, fulfilling yet another prophetic thread that the Messiah would be called a Nazarene. In this humble village, far from the powers that sought His life, Jesus would grow from child to man.

and coming, he dwelt in a city named Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophets, that ‘A Nazarene he shall be called.’

Footnotes:

*Nazareth or Nazarene means branch which we see both Isaiah 11:1 and Zechariah 6:12 call Jesus. This is possibly the prophet Matthew is referring to here. Otherwise it is another prophet familiar to the people of that time but lost to us.
