God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years;

The purpose of the luminary lights (stars) is written as otot and mo’adim (signs and appointed times or seasons). Notice how these ‘time keepers’ were created on ‘day four’ which confirms that God exists before our concept of time. This means He was, He is and always will be outside of our space time continuum, which can lead to some interesting prayers being answered. See Joshua 10:12 where the sun and time stood still.
