The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.

[2] At these bold words, the high priest Ananias, seething with indignation at what he perceived as arrogance, ordered those standing near Paul to strike him across the mouth, trying to silence what he saw as blasphemy.
