When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

(35) Now quieting this crowd, a court scribe says, "Men of Ephesus! What man isn't there who doesn't know that the city of the Ephesians is the honorary temple keeper of the great Artemis, who fell down from Zeus?

[35] Finally, the city clerk managed to quiet the crowd, appealing to their civic pride and reason: "Citizens of Ephesus! Everyone knows our city guards the temple of great Artemis and her sacred stone that fell from heaven.
