There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.

There is no fear in love (agape), because fear has punishment. But perfect love (agape) casts out fear. The one who fears is not perfected in love (agape).

[18] Such love has no fear in it. Perfect love expels all fear like light driving away darkness. If we're afraid of judgment, it shows that we haven't fully experienced the perfection of love. In true love, there is no fear, because fear involves punishment. But perfect true love casts out all unhealthy fear. Anyone who fears is not yet mature in true love.
